1. Department Management

Menu path: System Management → Department Management

Departments create a hierarchy inside one ThinkLink organization and identify where users and devices belong. A user or device can belong to more than one department.

1.1. Organizations and Departments

ConceptPurpose
Organization (tenant)The data, permission, and resource boundary in ThinkLink. A user enters an organization before managing its devices, models, and settings.
DepartmentA hierarchy inside the current organization, such as Engineering/Backend. A department does not create another tenant or move data to another organization.

For creating and switching organizations, see Organization Management.

1.2. View the Department Tree

Open System Management → Department Management. The page displays all departments as an expanded tree, including each department's name, full path, remark, and available actions.

Search by department name or path. Search results retain the matching department's ancestors so that its position in the hierarchy remains clear.

1.3. Add a Top-Level Department

  1. Click Add on the page.
  2. Leave Parent Department empty.
  3. Enter the department name and an optional remark.
  4. Check the Path preview shown in the form.
  5. Click OK to save.

A department name cannot contain /, Chinese or English commas, spaces, or other whitespace characters.

1.4. Add a Sub-Department

Use either method:

  • click Add Sub-department on the intended parent row; or
  • click Add on the page and select a Parent Department.

As you enter the name, the form previews the final path as parent path/current name. For example, adding Backend below Engineering creates the path Engineering/Backend.

1.5. Edit a Department

Click Edit on a department row to change its name or remark.

Note: You cannot move an existing department to a different parent. Renaming a department also updates the full paths of all its descendants and the matching department paths stored on devices. Confirm the new name before saving.

1.6. Manage Department Members

Click Members on a department row to view its current member list.

Add Members

  1. Select one or more existing organization members.
  2. Click Add Members.
  3. The users appear in the current department after the operation completes.

A user can belong to multiple departments. Adding a member here does not remove any of their other department memberships.

Remove a Member

Click Remove on the member row and confirm. This removes only the relationship with the current department. It does not delete the user account or affect the user's other departments.

1.7. Change Departments from User Management

To replace all memberships for one user, open System Management → User Management and click Department Change on the user row:

  1. select every department the user should belong to;
  2. save to replace the user's previous department memberships with the current selection;
  3. clear all selections and save to remove the user from every department.

To add or remove only one membership while preserving all others, use Add Members or Remove from Department Management instead.

1.8. Delete a Department

Click Delete on the department row and confirm.

Warning: Deleting a department also deletes all of its sub-departments and detaches those departments from members and devices. User accounts and devices are not deleted, but the operation cannot be undone from the interface. Expand the tree and confirm the full scope first.

1.9. Departments and Devices

Assign one or more departments from Maintenance → Device Management → Details → Basic Info → Department. The device list displays full department paths and supports filtering by multiple departments.

Multiple filter selections use "match any" behavior: a device is returned when it belongs to at least one selected department. See Device Management → Device Department Assignment and Filtering.
