04 · TWO DEPLOYMENT PATHS

Use transparent forwarding or run edge services on site

A LoRaWAN gateway first connects end devices to a network server. When a local loop is required, the same hardware can also host NS, decoding and application capabilities at the edge.

  1. 01 / RADIO

    LoRaWAN end devices

Sensors, meters and EdgeBus collectors connect over multi-frequency LoRaWAN.

  2. 02 / GATEWAY

    GD61 / GDI52 / GDO51

Handle multichannel radio and backhaul; GDI52 and GDO51 can also host ThinkLink on site.

  3. 03 / NETWORK

    External or built-in NS

Connect to ThinkLink, ChirpStack and TTN, or enable the built-in network server.

  4. 04 / APPLICATION

    Business systems

Deliver data to ThinkLink Cloud, an on-site application or a customer platform.

A / COMPATIBILITY

Mainstream network-server support

Connect to ThinkLink, ChirpStack, The Things Stack / TTN and network servers using Basic Station or GWMP.

  • Basic Station LNS / CUPS
  • GWMP / Packet Forwarder
  • Dual network-server configuration
B / EDGE

Embedded ThinkLink where the site needs it

GDI52 and GDO51 can keep the NS, decoding, history, models and dashboards on site. GD61 connects to an external platform.

  • GDI52 · industrial indoor edge
  • GDO51 · protected outdoor edge
  • GD61 · external NS / platform
C / BACKHAUL

Multiple backhaul links

Ethernet, Wi-Fi and 4G cover different field-network conditions with connectivity checks and link selection.

  • Ethernet
  • Wi-Fi AP / backhaul
  • 4G CAT1 (confirm regional bands)
D / OPERATIONS

Configuration and remote operations

Configure locally with WebConfigure and reduce operations cost through NMS, remote upgrades and secure access.

Gateway selection, answered directly

These answers summarize the decisive differences and link back to the maintained manuals.

Which gateways support embedded ThinkLink?

GDI52 and GDO51 support embedded ThinkLink. GD61 does not; it forwards LoRaWAN traffic to an external ThinkLink deployment or another compatible network server.

Read the GDI52 manual ↗

What is the main difference between GD61 and GDI52?

GD61 is a compact ESP32-S3 indoor gateway for standard forwarding and open deployments. GDI52 is an industrial indoor gateway with DIN rail mounting, operational RS-485 and embedded ThinkLink support.

Compare the manuals ↗

Which gateway should be used outdoors?

Use GDO51 for outdoor sites that require IP67 protection, -40°C to 70°C operation, pole or wall mounting and optional on-site ThinkLink services.

Read the GDO51 manual ↗

How is GDI524 related to GDI52?

GDI524-AN and GDI524-AG are ordering variants in the GDI52x family. The family name shown on this page is GDI52; the complete SKU determines options and regional radio configuration.
